Your 2025 Durham Candidates!
Treasurer

Thomas Peters

Thomas Peters is running to fill the Town Treasurer vacancy and seeking election to the Zoning Board of Appeals. A lifelong resident of Durham, Thomas recently graduated from Quinnipiac University with a B.A. in Political Science. His studies focused on topics such as volunteerism, affordable housing, and a senior thesis examining how different forms of municipal government allocated ARPA stimulus funds.

Outside the classroom, Thomas was active in student leadership, serving as a student government senator, class president, and executive vice president for public relations. Before graduating, he was honored with the SGA Involvement Award at the Undergraduate Awards Ceremony for his significant contributions to student life. In his final year, Thomas helped establish the Quinnipiac chapter of Sigma Phi Epsilon, serving as vice president for the chapter’s learning community. In that role, he supported members’ academic success and received the Scholastic Commitment Award from Quinnipiac’s fraternity and sorority life.

Over the years, Thomas has volunteered in a variety of roles around Durham—official and unofficial—including student representative to the Board of Education, student member of the Board of Recreation, member of Sustainable Durham, and currently as an alternate on the Zoning Board of Appeals. After learning of the Town Treasurer vacancy, he stepped up to offer his name for consideration.
Thomas brings a strong passion for public service and a commitment to improving his community. His election wouldn’t just bring energy—it would represent a generational shift in local government. He doesn’t believe the future is something his generation should inherit; he believes it’s something they should help build, together.
